K9 Hammer Places Second in Explosives Detection Trials

Tempe Police Department’s K9 Hammer earned second place in the Explosives Detection category at the 21st Annual Desert Dog Police K-9 Trials held in Scottsdale, Arizona this weekend.

Hammer, a 5-year-old Black Labrador Retriever, participated in the two-day competition that focused on scenarios involving the search for explosives. He is a member of the Tempe Police Bomb Squad and specializes in Explosive Detection.

The trials highlight the skills and training of police K9s in detecting explosives.
