New Fire Station to Improve Scottsdale Response Times
Staff Report / Scottsdalelocal.org
The Scottsdale Fire Department in Scottsdale, Arizona, is set to begin construction on a new 12,000 square foot fire station located northwest of the Airpark near the 101 and Hayden Road. This new facility aims to enhance response times in the rapidly developing area, which currently sees over 2,000 incidents per year.
The new fire station will accommodate a four-person engine company, a two-person Battalion Chief unit, and a wildland interface fire attack vehicle. It will feature four apparatus bays, an OSHA compliant decontamination area, a back-up generator, storage for personal protective equipment, a physical fitness area, locker rooms, bathrooms, office space, laundry facilities, twelve sleeping quarters, a full kitchen, a dining area, and a day room.
This design complies with current OSHA standards and the recommendations of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) for modern fire stations. The relocation of the fire station is intended to address the increased response times from the existing stations, which currently exceed the goal of four minutes due to the area's explosive residential and commercial growth. By positioning the new station closer to the geographic center of the service area, the Fire Department anticipates a significant improvement in emergency service response times.
